One of the greatest privileges of being a wedding photographer is getting to experience love stories. Every once in a while, though, you have the opportunity to photograph a story you’ve already been watching unfold for years. That was exactly what Brylie and Stephen’s wedding felt like.
Brylie was my college roommate so I had the unique privilege of watching their relationship begin. I saw the excitement of those early dates, celebrated alongside them when they got engaged, and then, years later, stood behind my camera as Brylie walked down the aisle toward Stephen. Being trusted with that part of their story is something I will never take for granted.
Brylie had trusted me with her senior photos before, so when it came time to choose her wedding photographer, she wanted someone who would feel more like a friend than another vendor. That trust gave us the freedom to focus less on creating photos and more on preserving the moments that were already unfolding naturally.
Their wedding at Deep in the Heart Farms reflected them perfectly. It was simple and elegant with soft touches of summery blue woven throughout the design, deeply rooted in their faith, and full of people who loved them wholeheartedly. Every part of the day felt intentional without feeling overcomplicated, allowing the joy of the people around them to become one of the most memorable details of all.
A Morning Full of Anticipation
One of the things I remember most about Brylie and Stephen’s wedding day is how calm it felt. There was excitement, of course, but it never felt rushed or chaotic. Instead, the morning was filled with anticipation that naturally builds when everyone is waiting for something they’ve been looking forward to for months.
Deep in the Heart Farms was the perfect place for that slower pace. One of the reasons I love photographing weddings here is that everything feels thoughtfully laid out, giving couples and their wedding party room to settle in and actually enjoy the morning instead of feeling like they’re constantly moving from one place to the next.
Brylie chose to share a few special moments before the ceremony while still saving the biggest one for the aisle. Her bridesmaids got a first look with Brylie in her dress. Their excitement immediately set the tone for the rest of the day.
One of the most emotional moments of the morning came during Brylie’s first look with her dad. Throughout the entire day, he wore his heart on his sleeve, and this was only the beginning. Watching him see his daughter as a bride for the first time reminds me why I love documentary photography so much. Nothing needed to be directed or recreated. It simply unfolded, and it was captured authentically.
The couple made the intentional decision to wait until the ceremony to see each other for the first time. There is something timeless about that choice. Every moment leading up to the ceremony carried just a little more anticipation because everyone knew the next time they saw each other would be when the chapel doors opened.
Details as a Tribute to Their Story
One of my favorite details woven throughout the morning was the subtle tribute to where their story began. Brylie and Stephen met while working as managers for the Texas A&M women’s basketball team. Instead of making that history the entire theme of the wedding, they incorporated thoughtful nods throughout the day. Their Aggie rings, rally towels, and custom Texas A&M basketball jersey guest book honored the place that brought them together, making those details feel deeply personal rather than decorative.
A Ceremony Rooted in Faith
The anticipation throughout the morning finally gave way as the chapel doors opened. Stephen saw Brylie for the first time walking down the aisle, and every emotion of the day unfolded. It was simple, joyful, and deeply meaningful.
Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they made promises not only to each other but before God. There were reminders throughout the ceremony that marriage is ultimately about serving one another with Christ at the center. It was a beautiful reflection of who they are and the life they’re building together.
The ceremony space at Deep in the Heart Farms complemented that atmosphere perfectly. Within an elegant chapel, there was an intimate setting where every guest felt close to the moment.
Beautiful Portraits Don’t Have to Take All Day
One of my favorite parts of Brylie and Stephen’s timeline was how intentionally they chose to spend it. Rather than stepping away from their guests for an hour, we carved out fifteen minutes after the ceremony to capture all of their newlywed portraits before they rejoined the celebration.
Deep in the Heart Farms makes that surprisingly easy. Within just a few minutes, we were able to move between inside dramatic lighting, open fields, tree-lined paths, the venue’s elegant barn and chapel architecture, and soft greenery. This created a gallery that felt far more varied than the timeline might suggest. One of the reasons I love photographing weddings here is that every corner of the property offers a different backdrop without rushing.
Couples are surprised when I tell them that portraits are made in just a small pocket of time. With thoughtful planning, beautiful light, and a venue that offers so much variety, your gallery doesn’t have to come at the expense of experiencing your wedding day.
A Reception Filled with Joy
The reception felt exactly like Brylie and Stephen: joyful, welcoming, and full of people who genuinely loved being together. The couple hand wrote notes to each guest, and the emotion was tangible. The room was filled with laughter, conversations, and the kind of energy that never had to be forced. Brylie is one of the most expressive people I know, so watching her laugh, hug friends, and soak in every moment made it impossible not to smile behind the camera.
The celebration ended with one of Deep in the Heart Farms’ most iconic traditions: the branding wall. After changing into custom sweat sets, Brylie and Stephen branded the wall with their new last initial before being cheered into married life by their favorite people waving Aggie rally towels. It was the perfect ending to a wedding that felt like nothing added just for the sake of tradition.
More Than Just a Wedding Day
Photographing Brylie and Stephen’s wedding will always be one of the most meaningful weddings of my career. Yes the event was beautiful, but it was the privilege of watching their story unfold from the very beginning. From being Brylie’s college roommate to photographing her senior photos to wedding day, documenting each chapter has been an incredible gift.
Their wedding was a reminder that the celebrations I remember most are not necessarily the biggest or most elaborate. They’re the ones that feel deeply personal. The ones where every detail points back to the couple, their story, and the people who love them most. Brylie and Stephen created exactly that kind of day, and I feel so grateful they trusted me to preserve it.
