But now… you don’t know when to elope in Texas…
I GOT YOU!
Texas weather can be hard to figure out. I’m a native Texan and have seen MANY years of Texas weather for weddings and elopements. Our seasons here can be…WEIRD. So, if you can’t nail down a time, let me help ya. Here is a guide on when to elope in Texas!

Summer (June – September)
Starting off strong in Summer, where temps can get up to triple digits…yikes! My biggest word of advice is to avoid summer time elopements in Texas. If you want to be outside at all, it can be extremely difficult to feel comfortable since you’ll definitively be sweatin’.
However, summer is actually a busy season for weddings in Texas. If you want a spot at a smaller venue (see my Where to Elope in Texas list!), you may get a last minute spot for considerably cheaper when venues run quick sales to keep their schedules full. But that could mean you and/or your guests fighting the heat & sun.
BUT! Summer has some of the prettiest sunrises and sunsets and vibrant colors. We’ve had a ton of rain this last summer and that’s helped it cool down – but also keep the greens and colors POPPIN’! You can definitely avoid the peak heat by doing our outside activities at sunrise or sunset.
When to Elope in Texas: Winter Tips
- If you want to do activities outside, plan them during sunrise or sunset – like a hike in the forrest or local park ceremony. Even so, bring bug spray, lots of water, and a handheld fan (this one is my favorite!)
- Check the websites and social medias of small venues you’re eyeing – they might run a sale on last minute dates you can hop on!

Fall (October – December)
Okay, so I’m totally biased because this is my favorite season and when I am getting married too. But Fall is, in my opinion, the BEST time to elope and get hitched in Texas. It may still be in the 75s, but it’s not as bad as the blistering summer sun. There’s a chance for some gorgeous 50-60 degree weather randomly. Rain is a lot less likely than in the Spring. While Texas doesn’t always have the reds and yellows of a beautiful fall transition right away, there have been times that November or December bring some incredibly vibrant fall leaves.
A downside is that most Texans know all this and plan their elopements during this time too. More Texans also go outside and start hiking again, so parks and trails will be bustling. But there’s ways to avoid the crowds, like going on weekdays, going right at sunrise or right at sunset, and planning early enough ahead.
When to Elope in Texas: Fall Tips
- This is arguably the best time for beautiful weather in Texas
- It’s the most popular time to elope in the state, so plan accordingly (I can help ya 😉 )
- Avoid crowds on the weekends where everyone and their dog is out enjoying the weather by eloping on a weekday at sunrise/sunset

Winter (January & February)
Winter in general is not my favorite, but winter in Texas isn’t so bad! If you’re from outside Texas, especially from somewhere more north, our winters will seem like a piece of cake to you! So, if you want to ditch the snow and enjoy the mild 40-50 degree averages during January and February, be my guest! There is always risk, however, that we suddenly get a massive cold front and it’s 30 degrees and a sprinkle of snow.
Texans tend to stay inside these months to avoid the cold, so you would most likely be alone on your trail hike or lake-side elopement. But, most greenery is gone and we’re left with brown and beige littering the landscapes. This isn’t a problem if you want to go to the San Dunes, rock formations, or inside a courthouse, but just know that photos may be less vibrant than usual. For Winter elopements I like to recommend renting a log cabin AirBNB and cuddling up next to a fire after a full- day of fun.
When to Elope in Texas: Winter Tips
- Some of the coldest months of the year with little to no color outside with a chance of some wind & snow
- Most Texans don’t venture out these months so trails would be clearer
- Opportunity to use the San Dunes during slow season or rent a cozy AirBNB and nestle up by the fire together

Spring (March – May)
We’ve made it to Spring, a slightly more complicated season to talk about in Texas. The weather is the most unpredictable in the Spring, for sure. It could be 40 degrees or 80 degrees. It could storm for weeks, or be sunny and clear. However, the spring brings out the most gorgeous wildflowers and typical spring bloom colors! If you want to frolic in a field or get dreamy, colorful portraits, this is your season! Second to Fall, Spring is one of the more popular seasons to elope because of the milder temperatures and gorgeous views.
When to Elope in Texas: Spring Tips
- Mild temperatures with the high possibility of rain
- Gorgeous wildflower and bluebonnet season!
- Another popular time for elopements in Texas so book in advance!
